Junior Angie Ned averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in UC Irvine’s two wins over Pacific (79-58) and Cal State Northridge (59-55) to earn Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Feb. 12.
In the Anteaters' first back-to-back wins of the season, the Moren Valley, Calif., native collected a career-high nine rebounds versus the Tigers and a personal best six steals against the Matadors. Ned scored all of her 13 points against Cal State Northridge in the second half, including five consecutive points after the CSUN took a one-point lead with six minutes remaining. With Northridge inching closer, Ned knocked down a pair of free throws to give UCI a four-point cushion. She drained one more free throw, her 800th career point, with 1:40 remaining to keep UC Irvine ahead by three.
This is Ned and UC Irvine’s first player of the week honor for the 2005-06 season.
