Cal State Northridge junior Calvin Chitwood (Phoenix, AZ/Paradise Valley HS) captured Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for his sterling performance in a 102-98 home win against Eastern Washington. He scored a career-high 30 points against the Eagles as the Matadors improved to 5-3 on the season.
Chitwood made 8 of 12 shots from the floor, including 2 of 3 on three-point attempts. He also made 12 of 12 from the free throw line en route to his career night. His previous career high was 21 points against Vanderbilt on Nov. 23, 2004.
The 6-8 forward just missed a double-double as he pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end. He added four steals and two assists in a season-high 34 minutes in helping the Matadors top the 100-point barrier for the second time this year and remain unbeaten at home (3-0) this season.
This is Chitwood's first career Big West Player of the Week honor.
