Long Beach State's Nixon Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Long Beach State senior Aaron Nixon (Cleveland, OH/San Bernardino Valley College) took home the first Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor of his career after leading the 49ers to a pair of home victories over Pepperdine and Sacramento State.

The 6-2 guard averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game for the week as the 49ers extended their winning streak to three games. Nixon also shot 60.0 (12-of-20) percent from the field and 86.7 (13-of-15) percent at the free throw line.

In Thursday's 95-90 win over the Waves, Nixon tallied 21 points, six rebounds and a career-high eight assists in 32 minutes of play. He made 6 of 11 floor attempts and knocked down 8 of 9 at the charity stripe.

Against the Hornets, Nixon scored 19 points while adding four rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes of action. Nixon sank 6 of 9 field goal attempts and 5 of 6 at the foul line. He also made a couple of three-pointers as the 49ers defeated the Hornets, 76-55.

Nixon leads LBSU in scoring and ranks third in the Big West at 16.9 points per game.
