Houston's Explosiveness Earns Her Big West's Weekly Honor

An error-free weekend that guided Cal Poly to its first conference title in 22 years earned Jaclyn Houston Big West Volleyball Player of the Week honors, for the week ending Nov. 12. Houston’s accolade is the Mustangs' fourth of the season, a school record.

In the wins over Cal State Northridge and Pacific, the 6-3 middle blocker hit .607 and collected 17 kills against zero errors en route to Cal Poly earning the Big West’s NCAA Tournament bid. The Mustangs last qualified for postseason play in 2002 after receiving an at-large bid.

In Friday's match against the Matadors, the Rocklin, Calif., native, went 7-for-12 for a .583 clip, while adding four blocks. The following night she was explosive at the net, posting an error-free .625 (10-for-16) hitting percentage and registering a team-high six blocks.

For the week, her hitting percentage was .283 better than her team-leading season average of .324 and her 1.67 blocks per game was .23 higher than her conference-leading mark of 1.44.

The Mustangs play their final regular season match this weekend when they travel to UC Davis for a Saturday-night matchup. Earlier this season Cal Poly swept the Aggies with scores of 30-20, 30-17 and 30-17
