After being named Big West Volleyball Player of the Week, UC Irvine’s Lauren Kellerman earns CVU.com National Player of the Week, as announced by the Collegiate Volleyball Update. This marks the second consecutive week a Big West student-athlete has earned national recognition. Last week, Cal Poly’s Kylie Atherstone received Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week.

A 6-0 outside hitter from Escondido, Calif., Kellerman led the Anteater attack during two Big West road victories, knocking off both UC Santa Barbara and No. 19 Cal Poly in five-game matches.

Against the Gauchos, the 6-0 outside hitter tallied a career-high 28 kills and chipped in 13 digs as the Anteaters secured their first-ever win at The Thunderdome. In Saturday’s match against the Mustangs, Kellerman recorded a team-leading 22 kills and collected 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the year.

Defensively, she registered a career-high five block assists versus Cal Poly as UCI handed the Mustangs their first Big West loss of the season.

Kellerman, who is now second in the league with a 4.02 kill average, etched herself into UC Irvine's record book in attempts per match in both contests. In the meeting with UC Santa Barbara she recorded 73 attempts to rank 10th in the program’s history and followed that performance with a 77-attempt night against Cal Poly, to place eighth.

UC Irvine (8-14/3-5) returns to the court on Thursday, Nov. 2 when they host Cal State Northridge to kick off a four-match homestand at Crawford Court. Following the Anteater-Matador showdown, UCI entertains Long Beach State on Saturday, Nov. 4. Both contests are slated for 7:00 p.m.
