Pacific freshman Ja-Neil Bragg tallied four first-place finishes against UC Davis.
For their efforts at the respective school's dual meets last weekend, Gaucho Pat Ota and Tiger Ja Neil Bragg were named Big West Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22.
For the men, the senior from Selma, Calif., posted four first place finishes and one third place finish in meets against conference foes UC Davis and Pacific. Against the Aggies, Ota earned two first place victories with the UCSB relay teams - 400 Medley Relay (backstroke) and the 400 Free Relay. His lone third place finish came in the 50 free with a time of 21.36. In the Pacific meet, he posted three top honors - one individually in the 100 butterfly and two in relays, 400 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay (backstroke).
Hailing from Manteca, Calif., Bragg swam a school record time of 51.60 in the 100 Free. Bragg's record- breaking performance against UCSB confirmed her spot as the leagues athlete of the week for women’s swimming and diving. The sophomore went on to claim two more first place prizes in the 200 Individual Medley (2:02.77) and 200 Free (1:50.59). Her performances guided the Tigers to a 157-103 win over the UCSB Gauchos.
