Cal Poly sophomore Dawin Whiten (North Hills, CA/Monroe HS) was named Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his role in leading the Mustangs to a 12-point win over Central Coast rival UC Santa Barbara.

The 6-3 guard poured in a game-high 24 points in the 74-62 home win on Saturday. He scored 19 of those points in the second half to finish just two points short of his season-high (26) and five off his career-high (29).

Whiten shot 9 of 18 from the field and hit five three-pointers on 11 attempts. The five made threes was just one short of his career-high. He also made one of two from the free throw line. Whiten added a rebound, an assist and two steals to his stat line.

The win over UCSB was Cal Poly's first over a Division I school at home this season. It was the first career Big West Player of the Week award for Whiten.
