Michelle Henke’s career-high 21 points led Cal Poly to its first win over UC Santa Barbara since 2001 and snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Gauchos, which earned her Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 22. The Mustangs 82-71 defeat over UCSB was just their second win over the Gauchos since 1983. The Albuquerque, N.M., native made five of 10 three-pointers, while contributing three assists and four steals as Cal Poly moved into second place by itself in the Big West with a 4-1 record. Henke’s award is the second honor in three weeks for the Mustangs and the first time a senior has received player of the week honors this season.
