Senior Marlene Sandoval (Placentia, CA/Valencia HS) was selected Big West Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for her role in Cal State Fullerton’s run to the Auburn/Reebok Soccer Classic title in Auburn, Ala. The Titans toppled Auburn and South Carolina, a pair of teams ranked in the SoccerBuzz.com regional polls.

Sandoval, a 5-9 defender, started at central defense and led the Titan defense to a 2-1 double-overtime win over the host Tigers in the tournament opener on Friday. CSF held Auburn to just 12 shots for the match and only six on net.

On Sunday, Sandoval accounted for the game’s only goal as the Titans outlasted the previously-unbeaten Gamecocks. Sandoval converted a penalty kick in the ninth minute for her first goal of the year. She then led a solid defensive effort to make the goal stand up, allowing South Carolina just nine shots for the game.
