Cal Poly's Troy Swier (San Diego, Calif.) joined Long Beach State's Jimmy Grabow (Running Springs, Calif.) and Nicole Blalock (Orange, Calif.) as the Big West Cross Country Athletes of the Week as the trio posted exceptional times among stiff competition at prestigious meets last weekend.

Swier and Grabow are the Men's Cross Country Co-Athletes of the Week.

Swier, a redshirt freshman, led Cal Poly to a fourth place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational, featuring 11 nationally ranked squads among the 27 participating schools. Swier ran the 8K course in 24:38 to finish in 13th place. He ranked second among freshmen finishers in the race while 225 runners competed overall.

Grabow turned in a personal-best time of 24:03 in the 8K at the Stanford Invitational as he finished seventh among 130 competitors. His time was also the second-fastest in school history and shattered his previous top time at that distance by 20 seconds. The senior fell just six seconds short of the school record as the 49ers forged a sixth place finish in the 13-team field.

Blalock captured Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for her 18th place performance among 227 runners at the Stanford Invitational. The junior ran the 6K course in 22:19, outdueling UC Irvine's Laura Olvera (22:23) and UC Santa Barbara's Seanna Martin (22:24) for best time among Big West finishers. Blalock's effort helped the 49ers to a seventh place showing out of 32 teams.
