Long Beach State freshman Kim Silos (Ontario, CA/Don Lugo HS) helped her team improve on its school record-setting start to the year, scoring two game-winning goals in overtime to wrap up Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors. It is the first such honor in her young collegiate career.
The 49ers won both matches against Fresno State and San Diego State by identical 1-0 scores in extra time. Silos, who played nearly every minute of both contests, scored in the 98th minute against the Bulldogs when she popped in a point blank shot in front of an empty net. She tallied five of the 49ers' six shots in the game.
The midfielder/forward struck again on Sunday versus San Diego State, waiting until the 105th minute this time to work her magic. She tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season after taking a pass from fellow freshman Hayley Bolt and beating the Aztec goalkeeper. Silos tallied five shots in that match as well.
LBSU is unbeaten in eight straight matches (7-1-1) after losing the season opener.
