Long Beach State’s Daley Delivers In 3-0 Week

Long Beach State freshman Ali Daley (Grass Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) garnered Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades after leading the 49ers to a 3-0 week and coming up with some big kills in the team’s first win over a ranked opponent this season.

Daley, a 6-0 outside hitter, hit .368 (46-11-95) for the week as the 49ers recorded wins over Pepperdine, UC Davis and No. 21 Saint Mary’s. She averaged 4.60 kills, 1.40 digs and 1.00 blocks per game.

She played a key role in leading LBSU to Saturday’s win over the Gaels, helping the 49ers overcome a deficit in the deciding fourth game. With LBSU trailing 23-18, Daley pounded a pair of kills out of a timeout. Daley proceeded to knock home three more balls, including the match-ending 24th kill that also established a career-high for her. She hit .405 (24-7-42) for the match while adding an ace and five digs.

The 49ers began the week with a 3-0 sweep of Pepperdine on Tuesday. In that match, Daley blasted 15 kills with only two errors in 35 swings (.371). She chipped in two aces, five digs and three block assists. Her 15 putaways was briefly a career-high before coming back four nights later against Saint Mary’s. LBSU also made quick work of UC Davis, in which Daley ended the match with seven kills, four digs, and six total blocks, including two on the solo end.
