Senior Ivan Becerra (Los Angeles, CA/Mission JC) scored his first two goals of the season and netted the game-winner to lead UC Santa Barbara to a win in its conference opener and seal up Big West Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors.

The forward did not waste time getting the Gauchos on the scoreboard in the 4-0 victory over UC Riverside on Sunday. Becerra one-timed a pass from fellow senior Jonathan Davis past the UCR goalkeeper at the 6:56 mark for the 1-0 lead.

Becerra returned to the scoring column in the 70th minute when he beat a defender just outside the left corner of the penalty box and guided a 25-yard blast to the far post for a 3-0 Gaucho lead.

For the game, Becerra took five shots, three of which were on goal. He is the third Gaucho to record a multiple-goal performance this year and ranks third in the Big West with five points.

This is the first career Player of the Week award for Becerra.
