Cal Poly sophomore Kristin Jackson (Manhattan Beach, CA/Mira Costa HS) was selected Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for her outstanding defensive play in helping her team win its own Cal Poly Best Western Royal Oak Invitational title.
Jackson earned all-tournament honors as the Mustangs defeated Portland, Loyola (MD), and San Jose State over the two-day event. The libero averaged 6.30 digs and 0.20 service aces per game for the week.
She had 24 digs in a three-game win over the Pilots on the tournament's opening day. In day two action, Jackson scooped 13 balls and added a service ace in a sweep of Loyola (MD), then amassed 26 digs in the nightcap against the Spartans. Jackson chipped in another service aces in the four-game victory.
Jackson's performance helped Cal Poly improve to 7-1 on the season, which already eclipses last year's win total of five.
With the four tournament wins, Cal Poly is just one win off of last year's win total. Jackson has recorded 10 or more digs in all eight matches this season. The efforts against Portland and San Jose State marked her first two 20-dig exploits of the year as well.
