UC Irvine's Vazquez Has Career-High Effort Twice To Earn Weekly Women's Volleyball Honor

UC Irvine senior Amanda Vazquez (Honolulu, HI/Moanalua HS) earned the first Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honor of the 2005 season, putting up career-high numbers for the Anteaters during their 2-1 week.

Vazquez averaged 3.77 kills, 0.31 service aces and 1.62 blocks per game to help UCI to five-game victories over Hofstra and Long Island. The 6-1 middle blocker posted a career-high 20 kills with just one error in 35 attempts (.543) to power UCI against Hofstra. She added three solo blocks and six total against the Pride.

In UCI's next match, Vazquez again established a career high with 22 kills versus Long Island. She hit .390 (22-6-41) against the Blackbirds and notched three service aces and 10 blocks. The 10 blocks were one off her career-high for a contest.

Vazquez hit .308 (7-3-13) in a three-game loss to San Diego in the season opener. Seven of her 21 total blocks were of the solo variety. She also hit .438 (49-10-89) for the week.
