Pacific senior Guillaume Yango (Paris, France/College of Southern Idaho) helped his team keep the nation’s longest winning streak intact with a pair of dominating performances, earning him Big West Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.
The 6-9 center turned in a mammoth effort against Cal State Fullerton in a road game for the ages as the Tigers held on for a 92-88 decision. Yango scored 23 of his game-high and career-high 27 points in the second half. He notched 13 points in the last eight minutes, including a layup and free throw with 1:23 remaining that provided the Tigers with the winning points. He made 8-of-12 shots from the field and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Against UC Riverside, Yango posted his seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds in a 68-46 win. The 14 rebounds gave Yango a new career-high. He also had three blocked shots in just 25 minutes of action. With the two victories, the Tigers carry a 21-game winning streak into the Big West Tournament.
For the week, Yango averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while hitting 54.2 (13-of-24) percent of his field goal attempts and knocking down 76.5 (13-of-17) percent from the free throw line.
