Modglin Helps Cal Poly To Successful Tournament Run

Cal Poly sophomore Lisa Modglin (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley HS) collected Big West Player of the Week honors after leading the Mustangs to three wins in four games at the Harrison Classic. She was the only Mustang to pick hit in all four games.

The center fielder batted .500 (7-for-14) with four runs scored and four RBI for the week as the Mustangs recorded a win apiece against host UC Riverside, Southern Utah and Harvard. She went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Cal Poly's wins over the Thunderbirds and the Crimson. She added a double in the 8-0 win over Harvard. Against the Highlanders, Modglin posted a 1-for-3 day and scored a run in a 3-1 victory.

In the only loss of the tournament for the Mustangs, Modglin still had a solid game as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored in a first matchup with Harvard.

Long Beach State's Cervenka Dominates In Three Wins

Long Beach State senior Meredith Cervenka (La Crescenta, CA/Crescenta Valley HS) won her second Big West Pitcher of the Week award this season after dominating the competition in three appearances at the Long Beach State Invitational. She threw a shutout in each game as the 49ers rolled to victories over Indiana, Loyola Marymount and San Diego State.

The right-hander allowed 15 hits and struck out 18 batters in 21.0 innings of work for the week. She did not allow an extra base hit and walked only three.

In a 5-0 win over the Hoosiers, Cervenka scattered seven hits while striking out three. She then dealt the Lions a 4-0 setback, tossing a three-hitter and fanning 10. Cervenka also tossed a five-hit shutout and struck out five in a 2-0 triumph over the Aztecs.
