Pacific junior Jorgen Vestli (Hamar, Norway) and Long Beach State senior Nicole Bouffler (Orange, NSW, Australia) won their matchups against a ranked opponent and garnered Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades as a result of their efforts for the week of Feb. 7-13.
Vestli, a transfer from South Alabama, breezed to a 6-4, 6-1 win over No. 51 Armando Carrascosa of San Diego State at No. 2 singles on Feb. 13. Although the Tigers lost 4-3 to the Aztecs, Vestli picked up another win at No. 2 doubles, teaming with Niclas Otte in an 8-0 win over Markus Dickhardt and Dontia Haynes. This is the third time this season that a Pacific player has earned the men's weekly honor.
Bouffler knocked off No. 52 Natalie Braverman of Pepperdine 6-2, 6-1 in the lone match for Long Beach State last week. Bouffler, who is ranked No. 113 nationally, accounted for LBSU's lone singles point at the No. 1 position in a 5-2 team loss. Bouffler joined forces with Sandra Rocha at No. 1 doubles to post an 8-5 victory over the duo Caroline Raba and Sylvia Kosakowski for the Waves. Bouffler owns a 3-1 record at No. 1 singles and is 3-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot this season.
