Cal State Northridge's Efevberha Puts On Scoring Show In 2-1 Week

Cal State Northridge junior Mike Efevberha (Pomona, CA/Ganesha HS) earned Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors after a record-setting scoring performance in a win over Tulsa and averaging 25.7 points over three games.

In addition to his scoring average, Efevberha produced 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game as the Matadors posted a 2-1 record. The 6-5 guard shot 53.8 (28-of-52) percent from the field, 50.0 (11-of-22) percent from three-point territory and a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line.

Efevberha erupted for 36 points in CSUN’s 77-71 over Tulsa on Tuesday. It set a record for most points scored in The Matadome during the school’s 16-year Division history and was the third-best scoring effort overall in CSUN D-I history. He hit 14 of 25 shots, including 6 of 11 from beyond the arc while also nabbing seven steals in the win over the Golden Hurricane.

He earned Golden Bear Classic All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 20.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. In a 102-81 loss to Northeastern, he tallied 23 points and six rebounds. Efevberha followed up with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting in an 82-73 win over Northern Colorado Saturday. He is the first ever Matador to open a season with three straight 20-plus scoring games (20 at USC, 36 vs. Tulsa and 23 vs. Northeastern).
