Cal State Fullerton redshirt junior Karen Bardsley (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala HS) and Pacific sophomore Bunny Dickson (Millbrae, CA/Notre Dame Belmont HS) were selected Big West Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week after one broke a school career record and the other recorded a pair of game-winning goals.
Bardsley posted a pair of shutouts in net for the Titans in identical 2-0 road victories over Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. The netminder faced eight shots and made a season-high five saves as the Titans recorded just their fourth win in 14 tries against the Mustangs. CSF also snapped Cal Poly’s 23-match unbeaten streak at home and pinned the first home defeat on the Mustangs since Oct. 27, 2002. In the process, Bardsley notched her 14th shutout to become Fullerton’s career leader. In Sunday’s game against the Gauchos, Bardsley was forced to make only two saves in amassing her seventh shutout of the year and establishing a single-season school record.
Dickson earned her share of the award for her performance on the offensive side of the ball. She totalled two goals and an assist to help Pacific to home victories over Cal State Northridge and UC Irvine. Against the Matadors, Dickson converted a penalty kick goal early in the second half after drawing a foul on the CSUN defense in the box. The goal gave the Tigers a two-goal lead in an eventual 2-1 win.
She struck again early on in Sunday’s 2-0 triumph over UC Irvine. She scored her second goal and recorded her second game-winning score of the weekend in the fifth minute. Dickson added an assist for good measure on a cross to teammate Mandi Van Dorn at the 70:03 mark.
