Long Beach State junior Marcel Torres (Diamond Bar, CA/UCLA) and UC Santa Barbara freshman Jennifer Davis (Whittier, CA/California HS) garnered Big West Co-Pitcher of the Week honors as both hurlers used the strikeout to their benefit.
Torres struck out seven batters and pitched her third straight two-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 25 Pacific on Sunday. She walked only two in lowering her ERA to 0.77, which is tops in the Big West. She also extended her streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 23.0 straight. She has only allowed seven hits since April 10.
Davis was a strikeout machine in going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA against Utah State. The right-hander fanned 23 batters in 12.2 innings and yielded only three hits and four walks in that span. She struck out a team season-high 16 batters in a complete game one-hit 2-0 shutout on Saturday. On Sunday, in a 2-1 win in 16 innings, she pitched the last 5.2 innings, striking out seven.
