Cal State Northridge’s Abel Ties Career-Highs In Hits, RBI

Cal State Northridge junior Jade Abel (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista HS) garnered Big West Player of the Week recognition as she helped the Matadors to a series sweep of Utah State and tied a couple of personal bests in the process.

Abel tied single-game career-highs with four hits and five RBI in Cal State Northridge’s 15-2 game two win in five innings over the Aggies on Saturday. Abel also scored a pair of runs and added a double in the game. She started off the series going 2-for-4 with a double in a 7-0 victory. Abel recorded her third double in as many games while going 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored in another 7-0 triumph in the last game of the series.

For the week, Abel hit .636 (7-for-11) with three doubles, three runs scored and five RBI. She raised her batting average from .370 to a team-best .421 and increased her RBI total to 16 on the season.
