Pacific junior Natalie King (Huntington Beach, CA/Texas) and Long Beach State junior Marcel Torres (Diamond Bar, CA/UCLA) were honored as Big West Co-Pitchers of the Week as both shut down a pair of highly ranked opponents in tournament competition.
King improved her record to 5-0 on the year with a 0.20 ERA as the right-hander picked up wins over Penn State and No. 7 Alabama. She one-hit Penn State in a complete game 3-0 victory to open the Palm Springs Classic. She struck out 11 Nittany Lions and walked only one. King came on in relief against Alabama, allowing one hit in 3.2 innings in a 3-2 win. For the week, King was 2-0 with 0.00 ERA, striking out 13 batters in 10.2 innings of work.
Torres hurled a four-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 4 Washington at the Campbell/Cartier Classic. She walked only two and struck out four while improving her record to 5-0 and lowering her ERA to 0.45. Torres has allowed only two runs in 31.0 innings pitched this season.
