Cal State Northridge freshman Laura Hovestreydt (Sunland, CA/Verdugo Hills HS) and UC Santa Barbara junior Lindsey Herrin (Coalinga, CA/Iowa State) are co-recipients of the Big West Player of the Week award after helping their teams to 3-2 records in tournament action.
Hovestreydt tallied at least one hit in four of the five games at the Arizona State Fiesta Bowl Tournament, recording a .421 (8-for-19) average with three runs and six RBI. She single-handedly led the Matadors to a 5-4 victory over Texas State, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, including a two-out bases clearing triple in the second inning that tied the score at 3-3. Her sixth inning double plated two more runs to give the Matadors a 5-3 lead. The first baseman also had three hits against Western Michigan and two more versus Massachusetts.
Herrin led UC Santa Barbara to a second place finish at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational. She batted .400 (6-for-15) with two runs and a team-high five RBI. The first baseman hit her fourth home run of the season and went 2-for-4 with three RBI in a 6-3 defeat to Mississippi State. She had a game-tying RBI single in UCSB's 4-3 win over No. 21 Oklahoma State, and in a rematch with Mississippi State, went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in a 5-2 victory.
