Long Beach State senior Jamie Farnworth (Upland, CA/Upland HS) is the first Big West Player of the Week for the 2004 season as she used the long ball to help the 49ers get out to a 7-3 start on the season.

The shortstop, who did have a single home run all of last year, belted three at the UCSB Early Bird Tournament to propel LBSU to a 5-1 mark. She had homers against No. 23 Oregon State, Illinois-Chicago and UC Santa Barbara and hit .375 for the tournament with six runs scored and six RBI. Farnworth also drew five walks, including three free passes against the Gauchos.

At last week’s Long Beach State Invitational, Farnworth hit .300 (3-for-10) with a double and one RBI. All three of her hits came against top 10 programs Washington and UCLA.
