Cal Poly midfielder Nikhil Erlebach (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrugge) and Cal State Northridge forward Willie Sims (Los Angeles, CA/Reseda HS) earned Big West Men’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week accolades after posting the best offensive performances of the week among conference teams.
Erlebach scored a goal in each of Cal Poly’s wins over UC Irvine and UC Davis. The junior tallied the equalizing goal on his only shot of the game in an eventual 2-1 triumph over the Anteaters on Wednesday. In Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the Aggies, Erlebach spurred the Mustangs to the early lead with a goal at the 20:30 mark. He leads the team with six goals and six assists this season.
Sims provided all the offense Cal State Northridge would need in a 3-0 win over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. The Matador sophomore scored two goals for the second straight match, as he connected in the 54th and 63rd minutes. His first goal came off a rocketed shot from 20 yards out. He knocked in a rebounded shot in the box for his second of the game. It was his fifth two-goal match of the season and seventh of his career.
