UC Riverside junior Rickey Porter (Fountain Valley, CA/Mater Dei HS) grabbed Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors after tying or setting eight single-game personal records in a solid victory over previously unbeaten Loyola Marymount.
Porter, a 6-3 guard, tallied career-highs with 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help steer the Highlanders to a 79-72 win at the Student Recreation Center on Saturday. He drained a career-high tying five three-pointers, with his fourth of the game fueling a 12-3 run that gave UCR the lead for good and was capped off by his fifth. He also made 7-of-8 from the free throw line, tying his personal best for most charity stripe makes in a game. Porter sank 5-of-6 free throws in the final 28 seconds to ice the game for the Highlanders.
Porter added three steals in his 29 minutes of action. His 18 field goal attempts, 12 three-point field goal attempts and eight free throw attempts also established individual career-highs.
