UC Santa Barbara forward Jennifer Borcich (Sacramento, CA/McClatchy HS) was named Big West Women’s Soccer Player of the Week as she used her goal-scoring prowess to help the Gauchos secure their first conference regular season championship in school history.
Borcich scored the game-winning goals in both Gaucho matches last week. She tallied the clincher in the first half of Friday’s 1-0 win over Idaho. On Sunday, Borcich hit a perfect cross to assist on the first goal and then headed in the game-winner at 78:45 as the Gauchos defeated Utah State, 2-1. The wins tied UCSB with Cal State Fullerton for first place in the Big West with 22 points. The two teams are co-champions but the Gauchos gained the No. 1 seed in the Big West Tournament after beating the Titans in head-to-head competition.
The senior leads the Big West with 12 goals and 29 points this season. The Gauchos are 9-0 in matches in which she scores a goal. Borcich also is the Big West career leader in goals (53) and points (132).
