UC Santa Barbara goalkeeper Dan Kennedy (Yorba Linda, CA/El Dorado HS) played brilliantly between the pipes as the Gauchos scratched out a 1-1 tie against San Francisco despite playing a man down for the final 55 minutes of the match. Kennedy’s performance earned him Big West Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors for the second time this season as the No. 1 ranked Gauchos remained unbeaten at 8-0-1.
The senior matched his season high with eight saves in the match, none more important than the one he made with just over a minute of regulation remaining. On a Don corner kick, Kennedy made a diving save on a rocketed shot that got through a crowd of players inside his goal box. He made an additional save in the first overtime to preserve the tie.
Kennedy allowed only his second goal in nine matches on a first half penalty kick, then made five of his eight saves in the second half after a UCSB player received a red card at the 55:18 mark.
