UC Riverside forward Jenna Leonti (Corona, CA/Santiago HS) and Pacific goalkeeper Laura Guerin (Swampscott, MA/Brewster Academy) were honored as Big West Women’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week recipients for their stellar performances in conference action.
Leonti made both of her goals count in a big way as they turned out to be the game-winners in victories over Idaho (2-1) and Utah State (3-2). The freshman tied the school record for goals in a season with her seventh, tallying the game-winner in the 56th minute against the Vandals on Friday. Leonti then broke the school record with her eighth goal, scoring with 2:07 left to lift the Highlanders past the Aggies. She also tied the school single season record for points with 18.
Guerin was a force in net as Pacific, despite being outshot 37-13 over two matches, managed to forge a win over UC Santa Barbara (1-0) and a tie against Cal Poly (0-0). The sophomore netminder made six saves including several on point blank attempts that preserved the Tiger lead. In the Cal Poly match, Guerin weathered an onslaught of Mustang shots as she made nine saves and notched her shutout in as many starts. Guerin has not allowed a goal in three appearances on the year.
