UC Irvine goalkeeper Cameron Rossi (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro HS) was named Big West Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the second week in a row as he recorded a shutout against second-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.
Rossi made only one save in the 1-0 victory, but he eliminated several scoring chances for the Gauchos on 12 corner kicks, clearing out of danger any potential opportunities. The Anteaters blanked the Gauchos for the first time this season and held down an offense that had been averaging 3.2 goals per match in Big West play. UCSB had not been shutout since the 2003 season when UCI won another 1-0 affair with Rossi between the pipes.
The senior broke the UCI school record for career shutouts with 14 with his performance against the Gauchos.
