Cal Poly outside hitter Molly Duncan (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad HS) and Idaho middle blocker Anna-Marie Hammond (Long Beach, CA/St. Joseph HS) were tabbed Big West Co-Players of the Week after leading their teams to impressive victories over top notch competition.
Duncan, a 5-11 senior, led Cal Poly to an upset over then-No. 19 UC Santa Barbara in five games on Saturday. She totalled 20 kills and 17 digs for her seventh straight double-double and 12th on the season. Duncan added two service aces and five blocks in the final match of her Mustang career.
The win for the Mustangs was the first over the Gauchos in Santa Barbara since the 1987 season. Cal Poly also ended a six-match losing streak.
Hammond, a 6-3 middle blocker, played huge in Idaho's important victories over Cal State Northridge and Pacific, keeping the Vandals in the hunt for an at-large NCAA Tournament berth.
She averaged 5.50 kills, 1.00 blocks and 0.33 service aces per game while hitting a torrid .500 (33-3-60) for the week.
In a sweep of Cal State Northridge, Hammond recorded 21 kills and two solo blocks while hitting .475 (21-2-40). In her final home match at Memorial Gym on Saturday against Pacific, Hammond slammed 12 kills and had four block assists in the three-game win.
