  • UC San Diego’s Leo Wiemelt helped the Tritons to back-to-back sweeps at LBSU’s Big West/SIAC Crossover Tournament over the weekend to earn Big West Freshman of the Week. 

  • The middle blocker combined to hit .556 and totaled 16.5 points, that included 12 kills, five blocks and two aces.  

  • Against Central State, Weimelt set new career-highs with 9.5 points, seven kills, two aces, and four digs. The product of La Grange, Ill., hit .875 (7-0-9) in that match.  

  • The next day against Edward Waters, Wiemelt logged a career-high four blocks to go along with five kills and a dig.
