High School San Marcos HS UC San Diego starting pitcher Ryan Forcucci tossed five-inning one-hitter to earn a win against San José State to earn The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. It is the first career weekly honor for Forcucci. In an eventual 3-1 team victory on opening day, the junior set the Tritons’ Division I single-game program record with 11 strikeouts and had a perfect game through 4.0 innings against the defending Mountain West champion Spartans. The San Marcos, Calif. product struck out at least two batters in each inning and closed out the performance by striking out the side in the fifth frame. Forcucci threw 64 total pitches with 46 being strikes. UC San Diego swept San José State in the weekend series and is 3-0 to start the 2024 season.
