CSUN redshirt freshman Jalen Phillips picked up a first career Big West Freshman of the Week award after helping the Matadors to a split on the week.

Playing in seven of CSUN's eight sets, Phillips put down 26 kills on 41 swings with just five errors to hit .512 as CSUN.

Phillips hit .625 in two sets against Cal Lutheran before posting a career-high 21 kills on .485 hitting against No. 16 Princeton. The opposite hitter also had six aces in the two matches, including a career-best five against Princeton. Phillips also added five digs and three blocks in the five-set loss against the Tigers.

Phillips is fourth in The Big West in hitting percentage at .380, which ranks 20th nationally.
