  • UC Santa Barbara’s Ajay Mitchell averaged 28.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two wins to earn The Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award. It is the junior’s third career weekly honor having won it twice last season (Jan. 2, Feb. 13) and once during the 2021-22 season (Feb. 28).

  • Mitchell shot a combined 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the field, 50 percent (2-of-4) from behind the arc and 85 percent (17-of-22) from the charity stripe in the two victories. 

  • The Ans, Liege, Belgium product started the week by amassing 27 points, on 55.6 percent (10-of-18) shooting, seven rebounds and two assists in Monday’s 69-65 road triumph at Fresno State.

  • On Wednesday, Mitchell compiled 30 points, shooting 60 percent (9-of-15) from the field, with four rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 70-59 home win over Northern Arizona.

  • UC Santa Barbara is 4-2 this season and unbeaten at 4-0 with Mitchell playing. The Gaucho captain is averaging 23.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
