  • Nico Zeglin twirled a three-hit shutout against second-place defending Big West champion UC Santa Barbara at Blair Field on Friday night for a second Big West Pitcher of the Week recognition.
  • Zeglin engaged in a pitcher’s duel with Gaucho sophomore right-hander Matt Ager (7.1 IP), the two of them notching 10 strikeouts apiece in the 1-0 LBSU triumph. The graduate student retired the final 20 UCSB hitters in order following a one-out double and walk in the third.
  • The 9.0 innings are a new career long for Zeglin (7-4), with the 10 strikeouts marking a fourth double-digit punch-out performance as a Dirtbag. Zeglin walked two batters and faced three batters over the minimum, needing only 99 pitches (62 strikes) to do it. In the first inning, Zeglin fired to second baseman Eddie Saldivar to pick Jared Sundstrom off of second following a one-out double, just ahead of another double by Aaron Parker as the Gauchos failed to score.
  • The first-year transfer from Gonzaga has now been a part of three shutouts in 2023, having earned a first Big West weekly award on March 13 after combining on a two-hit, 8-0 shutout (7.0 IP, 0 H, BB, career-high 13 K) against visiting South Florida the day before.
  • Zeglin’s current ERA is 2.21, with the Walnut Creek product also second in The Big West in both innings (81.1) and strikeouts (104) behind Ager (84.0 IP, 105 K).
  • LBSU leads the league with four Big West Pitcher of the Week awards in 2023, as Zeglin and fellow newcomer Graham Osman (Feb. 20 and April 3) have two apiece, joined by Ager.
