• Mikayla Carman guided CSUN to a road series sweep at UC San Diego to pick up a first career Big West Field Player of the Week award.
• The true sophomore drove in the game-winning runs in two of the three contests. Carman capped off a 3-for-4 performance in Friday’s opener with a two-out, two-run double to the opposite field in right center in the eighth that put the Matadors ahead for good in the 4-3 victory. The Huntington Beach product knocked in three and scored the other.
• Carman’s single (one of four total for both teams in the game) up the middle with one gone in the top of the seventh was the difference in the 1-0 decision over the Tritons in Saturday’s series finale, as Shaylan Whatman raced around from second.
• For the weekend, Carman hit .364 (4-for-11) and slugged .455 with a .364 on-base percentage, one run scored, a double, four RBI and a sacrifice bunt. The leftfielder made two clean putouts defensively.
• Carman gives CSUN two consecutive Big West Field Player of the Week awards, as teammate Alexa Landeros was the May 1 recipient. The second-year Matador was the final Big West Freshman of the Week of 2022 on May 16.
