UC San Diego freshman Brandon Larson collected 10 RBI and scored five runs scored to help lead the Tritons to a sweep at Cal Poly and earn a first career Big West Field Player of the Week nod. Larson is the second UCSD slugger to earn an award this year, Michael Fuhrman in earning distinction (March 20).

Larson knocked a home run in each of the Tritons’ four games for the week, including a 3-2 loss at USC on Tuesday. Larson recorded a 1.125 slugging percentage, going 6-for-16 with three walks and a .474 on-base percentage.

The Tritons’ designated hitter drove in three runs in each of UC San Diego’s three games against the Mustangs to secure the series sweep. Larson blasted the go-ahead home runs in both Saturday and Sunday’s victories at Cal Poly.

Larson’s 10 runs batted in moved him into a tie for second place in The Big West with 42 RBI on the season.

Teaming up with southpaw Izaak Martinez this week, this marks the first time in program history a pair of UC San Diego baseball players has swept the pair of Big West weekly awards. The Tritons began their reclassification period to Division I and joined the league in July 2020.
