UC San Diego lefthander Izaak Martinez secured a save in each contest of the weekend to earn a first career Big West Pitcher of the Week award. Martinez is the first UCSD pitcher to garner weekly honors this season.

In three appearances at Cal Poly, Martinez combined to go 4.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with no walks and six strikeouts as the Tritons swept the Mustangs.

The redshirt junior recorded a three-inning save in the series opener on Friday, facing one batter over the minimum and collecting five strikeouts. On Saturday, Martinez took care of the final out in the ninth to shut down a late Cal Poly comeback, 8-6.

After allowing a leadoff home run in the ninth on Sunday—his only run allowed of the weekend—Martinez retired the next three Mustangs in order, including a three-pitch strikeout to end the contest, 7-6.

Martinez is now tied for fifth in The Big West with four saves on the season and is part of a five-way tie for second in total wins with a record of 5-1.
