  • Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah made Long Beach State beach volleyball history at the Center of Effort Challenge en route to Big West Pairs Team of the Week honors. This is their second weekly award of the 2023 season, also securing distinction on March 10. 

  • The first-year pairing went a perfect 4-0 in the second flight over the weekend, claiming points for the Beach against No. 2 USC, No. 4 Florida State, No. 6 Loyola Marymount, and Big West foe and event host Cal Poly. The duo bounced back from a first-set loss against both the Trojans and Seminoles, and also earned a three-set victory against the Lions.  

  • LBSU went 1-3 as a team and were pitted against the Mustangs in the seventh-place match. There, Gementera and Hagenah helped LBSU to the 3-2 win to secure the 20th team victory of the season. 

  • The No. 2 tandem now has 29 wins (29-5) on the season marking a new single-season pairs program record. Gementera and Hagenah are next in action at the 2023 Big West Championship, April 21-22 from Queen’s Beach in Honolulu. The official double-elimination bracket is set to be announced Wednesday.
