  • All-American libero Mason Briggs anchored No. 4 Long Beach State’s defense in two wins over No. 15 CSUN over the weekend to nab a fourth career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award.
  • Briggs averaged 3.13 digs per set as the Beach have now won six straight matches for the third time in 2023, and sit in a first-place tie with Hawai’i heading into the final week of the regular season.
  • The fourth-year junior first collected a match- and season-high 18 digs, two shy of a new career best, in Friday’s reverse sweep in Northridge, to go along with two set assists. Briggs made just one error on 34 service receptions.
  • Saturday night’s sweep in Long Beach saw Briggs get to a team-high seven more digs with one set assist, while again committing a solitary error over 19 serve receives.
  • Briggs’ prior Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors came earlier this season on Jan. 23, and back-to-back last year on March 28 and April 4. The Beach have laid claim to a league-high seven of the 14 defensive awards in 2023, through three different standouts.
