• Izabella Martinez led Hawai’i to a series victory at Cal Poly, batting .700 (7-for-10) with a double, home run, run scored, two RBI and a walk, and picked up a first Big West Field Player of the Week award.
• Martinez went 3-for-4 in Friday’s opener, a come-from-behind 4-2 Rainbow Wahine victory, driving in the final run of the contest with a first-pitch, opposite-field single through the left side in the fifth. The Garden Grove native’s fifth home run of the year, a solo shot pulled to right center to ignite a decisive five-run fourth, opened the scoring in Saturday’s first game, which ended 5-1 in UH’s favor to clinch the set.
• Martinez wrapped up the Saturday doubleheader by going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double in a 7-0 loss to the Mustangs, improving the true sophomore’s season batting average to .373. The pair of three-hit efforts coming on consecutive days were the first of Martinez’s college career.
• Starting all three games behind the plate, Martinez handled all nine defensive chances cleanly through seven putouts and two assists.
• Martinez gives UH two Big West Field Player of the Week selections for 2023, after Mya’Liah Bethea on Feb. 20.
