  • Harry Gustin fired 7.0 one-hit frames in igniting Hawai’i to the sweep of a three-game non-conference series at home over Tulane and picking up a first career Big West Pitcher of the Week award.
  • Gustin in fact took a no-hitter into the seventh as the Rainbow Warriors scored three in the sixth for a 3-1 triumph over Tulane in Friday night’s opener at Les Murakami Stadium. The sophomore out of Aurora, Colo., struck out a career-high eight while facing just two batters over the minimum in the solid 96-pitch outing. It was the longest stint of both Gustin’s college career, and of any UH hurler thus far in 2023.
  • The lone blemishes against Gustin were a two-out walk in the third after retiring the first eight hitters in order, and then after 10 more in a row were set down, a pinch-hit home run to lead off the seventh. The left-hander struck out the next three to round out the performance. Gustin had also gotten a called third strike to end the third after that walk.
  • The Rainbow Warriors as a staff surrendered just three runs to the Green Wave in posting a second straight series victory and a first weekend sweep for the current campaign.
  • Gustin is the first Hawai’i baseball student-athlete to earn a Big West weekly award this season, and indeed first of second-year head coach Rich Hill’s tenure on O’ahu. Three Rainbow Warriors, Kole Kaler (April 12), Stone Miyao (April 26) and Dustin Demeter (May 3), were named Big West Field Player of the Week in 2021. UH’s last Big West Pitcher of the Week was Logan Pouelsen all the way back on March 5, 2019.
