Cole Hogland Award Defensive Player of the Week Week Of 2/27/2023 Sport Men's Volleyball School Hawai'i Year Junior Position Opposite/Middle Blocker Hometown Waimanalo, O‘ahu High School ‘Iolani School Cole Hogland aided top-ranked two-time defending national champion Hawai’i to two more home wins to remain a perfect 13-0 and picked up a first career Big West Defensive Player of the Week selection. Hogland averaged 2.17 blocks per set in UH’s two-match series sweep of visiting Long Island University on Wednesday and Friday nights. The Hawai’i native out of ‘Iolani School topped all players with a season-high eight total blocks (one solo) in the series opener, adding four kills on six swings with one error (.500), and a match-high two service aces for a match-best 10.5 total points. Hogland collected five denials in the rematch, all assisted to again lead all players, alongside five more kills without a miscue on six attempts (.833), another ace and a single dig for 8.5 points. The fifth-year junior’s three aces over the two nights also paced Hawai’i. This is a first Big West weekly award of any kind for Hogland. Teammates Brett Sheward (Jan. 16) and Guilherme Voss (Feb. 13) were prior defensive recipients for UH in 2023.
