  • Ma’Qhi Berry put together a spectacular weekend in guiding The Big West leader Long Beach State to its 13th and 14th consecutive wins, averaging 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game and picking up a first career conference weekly recognition.
  • The sixth-year senior’s week began with a game- and then-season-high 21-point effort during a narrow 66-63 home victory Thursday over third-place UC Santa Barbara. Berry shot 8-for-14 (.571) from the field and 5-of-7 at the line, adding six boards, four assists and a pair of steals.
  • In Saturday afternoon’s 87-76 road triumph at CSUN, Berry went for a game and season high again of 23 points (one shy of career best on Jan. 9, 2020) on an identical 8-of-14 shooting from the floor while connecting on 6-of-7 free throw attempts. The native of Irving, Texas, also contributed five rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
  • Berry paces The Big West in assists per game (4.4) and total assists (111), and is second in steals per game (2.4) and fourth in steals (60).
  • Berry joins teammates Kristyna Jeskeova (Dec. 19) and Tori Harris (Jan. 2) as Long Beach State’s Big West weekly honorees for this campaign.
  • The Beach are now 21-7 overall and 16-2 in The Big West, holding a one-game lead over second-place UC Irvine, which pinned them with their last defeat, 60-57, all the way back on Jan. 7 in Long Beach. This 14-game win streak is the longest in the conference this year, and tied for the seventh-best current stretch nationally. LBSU plays at CSU Bakersfield this Thursday at 7 p.m. before hosting UC Davis on Senior Day Saturday at 2 p.m. to round out the regular season, both on ESPN+.
