Caylen Alexander is The Big West Freshman of the Week for a league-high sixth time after a road sweep that gave Hawai’i a third successive outright conference crown.

In Friday night’s come-from-behind five-set triumph at runner-up UC Santa Barbara that officially punched UH’s ticket for an NCAA Championship return, Alexander put down 16 kills on .286 (16-6-35) hitting. The true freshman outside hitter reached double digits in kills for the 14th time, and added five digs and two aces.

The native of Alpharetta, Ga., and 2022 graduate of Centennial High School then contributed 12 kills at a .333 (12-3-27) attack rate, a season-best six total blocks (two solo) and three digs in a 3-1 win at CSUN on Saturday night. Alexander averaged 3.78 points and 3.11 kills per set.

Alexander has appeared in all 28 matches for the Rainbow Wahine, starting eight, and continues to lead the team with 33 service aces. Hawai’i closed out the regular season as a winner of 12 straight, the longest streak in The Big West in 2022, and 20 of its last 21.

UC Irvine libero Campbell Jensen picked up the next-most weekly rookie honors with three. Alexander’s earlier Big West Freshman of the Week awards were on Sept. 5, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 10 and Oct. 31.
