Macall Peed helped UC Santa Barbara strengthen its hold on second place with a pair of straight-set victories to sweep the road weekend and earn a third career Big West Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

Peed averaged 5.00 digs, 1.00 aces and 0.83 assists per set on the trip. In Friday night’s win at CSU Bakersfield, the Gaucho libero led all players with 16 digs and was a perfect 10-for-10 on service receptions while dishing out a match- and career-best four aces and a pair of assists.

Saturday night at third-place Cal Poly, the junior San Diego product again provided the match high with 14 digs, to go alongside two aces and three assists. Down 24-21 in the second frame, Peed delivered a perfect pass that led to a kill, and followed that up with back-to-back aces to tie the score. UCSB would go on to a 26-24 win on Peed’s serve.

Winners of four in a row, the Gauchos are 16-8 overall and 12-2 in Big West play, with first-place Hawai’i at 13-1.
