Sophomore outside hitter Ava McInnes excelled as UC San Diego split the weekend at home to earn Big West Offensive Player of the Week. The Tustin native compiled 48.0 points and 46 kills, averages of 6.00 and 5.75 per set, respectively, while hitting at a .301 (46-9-123) clip.

McInnes produced match and career highs of 31 kills on 85 swings for 32.0 total points in a five-set loss to Long Beach State on Friday night, attacking at a .282 (31-7-85) rate.

McInnes then also led all players with 15 kills during Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton. It marked UC San Diego’s first Big West sweep of 2022. She hit .342 (15-2-38) in that one, and added three total blocks (one solo) and 14 digs for the weekend.

McInnes is a first-time Big West weekly award winner, and UC San Diego’s first-ever offensive honoree in the program’s second season as a league member. She is the first Triton recognized in 2022.
