Long Beach State’s Dylan Dela Cruz put together a career performance in the past week en route to Big West Defensive Player of the Week acclaim. The senior libero got to a match-high 34 digs at UC San Diego on Friday night to become the first Beach player to record 30-plus digs in a contest since 2010. Dela Cruz also moved into third in the program’s single-match record book.

The Long Beach product out of Long Beach Poly High School followed that effort with 25 digs to lead all players in another five-set triumph over UC Irvine on Saturday night. Dela Cruz concluded the week averaging 5.90 digs per set and added 11 assists over the two matches.

Dela Cruz has appeared in all 16 matches for Long Beach State, and reached double-digit digs in all but one.

Dela Cruz is now a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week in 2022, having picked up the season’s first award back on Aug. 29. Dela Cruz is the league’s lone student-athlete with multiple defensive awards.
